Tanzanian Pilau

Ingredients

  • 600g beef stew meat, cubed
  • 3 cups basmati rice, washed
  • 3 onions, sliced
  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 5 cardamom
  • 5 cloves
  • 1 tbsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tbsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 5 tbsp oil
  • 5 cups water
  • Salt

Instructions

  1. Brown beef with onion in oil.
  2. Add ginger-garlic and spices; cook 2 min.
  3. Add 500ml water; simmer covered 40 min until tender.
  4. Add the rice; toss to coat.
  5. Add remaining water and salt.
  6. Cover; cook on low 25 min.
  7. Rest 10 min before serving.
