British Banoffee Pie

A British dessert of biscuit base, dulce de leche, sliced banana, whipped cream and chocolate — invented in Sussex in 1971.

Ingredients

  • 250g digestive biscuits, crushed
  • 100g butter, melted
  • 1 can dulce de leche (or boiled condensed milk)
  • 3 large bananas, sliced
  • 500ml double cream
  • 2 tbsp icing sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 30g dark chocolate, grated

Instructions

  1. Mix biscuit crumbs with melted butter; press into a 23cm tart tin.
  2. Chill 30 min to set.
  3. Spread dulce de leche over the base.
  4. Top with sliced banana.
  5. Whip cream with icing sugar and vanilla to soft peaks.
  6. Pile cream on top.
  7. Grate chocolate over.
  8. Chill until ready to serve.
